Soft Glam vs Traditional Bridal Makeup
One is not more modern than the other. They solve different problems, and plenty of brides need both across a single wedding.
The soft glam versus traditional debate is usually framed as old against new. It is not.
What traditional bridal does well
Full coverage, defined eyes, a strong lip. It holds up under heavy jewellery, reads clearly from a distance, and photographs the way Indian weddings have been photographed for decades. In a large hall with hundreds of guests, a soft face can disappear.
What soft glam does well
Skin that looks like skin. Definition placed rather than layered. It rewards close-up photography and intimate ceremonies, and it ages well in your own photographs — you will not look back in ten years and see the year you got married.
Most brides want both
Soft glam for the haldi and mehendi. Something closer to traditional for the wedding day itself, where the lehenga is heaviest and the hall is largest. Reception somewhere in between, built for evening light.
That is the actual answer: not one direction for the whole wedding, but a decision made per ceremony.
